Instagram invades Eternia!!!

Just a few fun Instagram pics featuring a few figures from my Masters of the Universe Classics collection.  Enjoy!

Ultron Teaser

This is a teaser pic of the much-anticipated (by me) Marvel Select Ultron figure.  Ultron is probably my favorite Avengers villain, so I was excited when I saw a figure of him coming out that actually looks like him.  There have been several tries before, but even Toybiz's Marvel Legends series couldn't do him justice.

Anyway, this is all you get until I find time to do a proper photo shoot.  Stay tuned for more Ultron pics!

Marvel Select Loki

I have wanted the Marvel Select Loki figure since it came out last summer following the release of Thor in theaters, but I kept putting off the purchase.  I decided to buy it at the Dallas Comic Convention last May and I had my pick of 2-3 on the floor, but I passed them up to browse the floor first and they all sold out within 2 hours!  Finally, I made some extra $ selling old figures on eBay and used some of it to buy me some mischief.

There's a new "Avengers Movie" Loki popping up in Walmart stores in the 6" Marvel Legends style, but I wanted this larger 7" scale Loki.  He IS the son of a Frost Giant, after all. This version of Loki's helmet isn't removeable, but the details and likeness are spot on.

Here are a few snapshots from Loki's personal scrapbook!

Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast!

My friend Adam recently gave me a dvd set of Space Ghost Coast to Coast which reminded me of two things.  One, Space Ghost is awesome.  Two, a Space Ghost Coast to Coast figure was released about 10 years ago and I used to have it.  I had kept it in the package and ended up selling it when I was saving up for my wife's engagement ring.  Well, we've been married for over 7 years now, so I thought it was time to get him back.

I got a good deal for a loose SG on ebay and he showed up in the mail today complete with his Coast to Coast interview desk, stool, interview cards, and coffee mug.

He's not as well-articulated as most of my figures, but he has pretty good range of motion and looks a LOT like his cartoon.  Check out the pics below!

And now for a special guest...

Hulk...SMASH!!!

My Marvel Legends Hulk is a very good figure, but he's just not measuring up to the rest of my Avengers these days.  Hulk should be bigger than Thor.  Luckily the new Avengers movie inspired a great new Hulk Marvel Select figure!  This guys is HUGE and towers above my 6" figure collection.

This Marvel Select Hulk features decent articulation, awesome size, and a nice paint job everywhere except his pants.  Those are pretty understated and could have used a lot more attention.  I would have also liked to have one hand opened up with his fingers flexed and ready for action, like he was often shown in the movie.  Different hands to swap out would have been extra nice.  All-in-all a great Hulk figure though.  Check out the detail on his face below.

Now for some comparisons.  Below is my new Marvel Select Hulk compared to my now tiny-looking Marvel Legends "Face-Off" Hulk.  I've also compared his size to the massive Juggernaut and sizeable Destroyer.

The band's back together!!!  Avengers...you know what to do.  Assemble already!

I'd give this figure 4 out of 5 stars.  It's not perfect, but it's darn good and would be a nice addition to any Marvel collection.

Monochrome Spidey

For those not in the "know", the Fantastic Four recently lost a member to a temporary death (as it turned out) and changed their name to the Future Foundation.  The new FF sported slick new black & white duds and invited Spider-Man to join in the fun.  I bought the first issue of FF just for the sweet Spider-Man suit.  Now Hasbro has released an awesome new FF Spidey in the latest Marvel Legends series!  Let's check him out!

First off, this is probably the best Spider-Man action figure sculpt yet.  Yes, his hands are frozen in fist/web shooting poses, but considering how bad the more articulated Spider-man hands have been in the past, I'd rather just have one that looks nice for once.  This Spidey is very solid-looking, features great posability, and the paint apps are almost perfect.  I'll compare this new Spidey to my previously displayed one and you can see the difference. The older Spidey features nice details, but he's creepy skinny and while they made him very posable, he just looks odd.  I love this new sculpt and would buy more Spideys from Hasbor if they would repaint this sculpt in the classic red/blue and black suits.

Is this suit design and figure followthrough not incredible?  Love it!

Check out these poses!

Here's the comparison  of the new Spidey to the now-demoted Spidey.  The old Spidey can almost match the pose, but look how awkward and fragile he looks.  Plus, look at those weird hands!  No contest.

I'm not usually a huge Hasbro fan (I haven't forgotten you ToyBiz), but they did Spider-Man right, which goes a long way in my book.  Nice job!

The Prince and The Magician

I wasn't able to get him the first time he came out, but the 2nd time's the charm...introducing Prince Adam & Orko!  As a fun twist Mattel sold this as the Orko toy and included Adam as an accessory in the bottom of the packaging.  After I missed their first release I got impatient and  bought an Orko on ebay.  I was never happy on having missed Adam though.  Once I got Cringer with Queen Marlena, I knew I would HAVE to get Adam.

Adam comes with his sword, a half sword, and 2 heads to choose from.  Orko comes with a cool floating base, a wand, and a spell book.  It must really be magic because I can't for the life of me figure out how Orko is holding onto that book!  His thumb is NOT holding it in place.  I tried to wedge it in there and it stuck. I'm not asking questions.

Adam comes with your choice of 2 heads.  I'll be sticking with the "concerned" look myself.  See the options below.

Not much to say about Orko except they did a great job on his sculpt.  He looks like he floated right out of my tv!

Last, but not least, I decided to try something I've never done before...an animated .gif!  Without further ado...

Thanks for stopping by.  Check back soon for pics of the very awesome Marvel Legends Future Foundation Spider-Man!

Shiny New Colossus

A few years ago I bought what i thought was the last Colossus figure I would ever need. The Marvel Legends Colossus was big, shiny, and had a great paint wash. This week I found a better one. Once I saw the new Marvel Select Colossus, I could see all the areas where the Legends version fell short. The Select Colossus is bigger, shinier, actually poses better, and best of all, actually looks like the character! You'll see for yourself if you scroll down.

Colossus comes with a spiked wall that is supposed to be part of the Danger Room training area. It looks great, but seems kind of small to be a threat to this big guy and it's probably going straight to storage.

The details on Piotr's clothes are very well done, but if you prefer your Russian mutants topless, feel free to pull off his head and remove the top part of his shirt. For much of the 80's Colossus went shirtless in battle, so this is not all that weird. I think the details are great, but can't get past the abdominal part of the shirt that is not removable, so I will be displaying him with his shirt on.

Now for some fun comparisons. Look at his size compared with in-scale figures of the Hulk, Thor, Juggernaut, & the Legends Colossus below. I'm not sure that he's supposed to be bigger than the Hulk, but I'm sure the Marvel Select Hulk is bigger. The others are pretty right-on though.

Last but not least, the "Fastball Special"! It's pretty cool that there's actually a Colossus figure that can easily lift a Wolverine figure to recreate their signature move.
